Google, Evil and World Domination

Good post today over on CIO Insight: “11 Ways Google is Evil”. I laughed a bit as I read through the list, but after thinking about it, just about any item on the list could be applied to any other company out there (and probably more than a few people I know.)

Okay, maybe the ones about usurping knowledge, turning your Gmail over to the authorities, and squealing on users are a bit troubling, but geez, Louise, what the hell did you think was going to happen? It’s Google, for crying out loud. My neighbor thinks they’re part of a government plot to brainwash the US population (he has obviously never watched American Idol.)

From BackRub in 1996 to AdWords in 2000 to the 2004 IPO (19,605,052 shares of Class A common stock with an opening price of $85 per share – it’s $529.64 at the time of this writing) and launch of Gmail to the 2008 acquisition of DoubleClick to Google’s Chrome browser and Android operating system, you had to get some clue that these guys weren’t going to just sit around and let Microsoft (or anyone else) kick their asses!

Pay-per-click advertising, Google Labs, and being evil are bits and pieces of a much more complex world domination plan. Sergey and Larry just need to work through a few final details regarding purchasing evil from Microsoft and Google will be all set.

I just wish I’d have gotten in at $100.
