About Gene De Libero

Gene De LiberoAs a professional musician in the late 70′s and early 80′s, I was an early adopter of electronic music, building digital recording studios around the Commodore 64 and Atari 1040ST [and subsequently, Mac and PC-based digital multi-track studio applications].

I launched my first new media start-up in 1986. A precursor to today’s social networks, East Coast MIDI (ECM) was a multi-line bulletin board system dedicated to electronic musicians. Partnering with manufacturers, ECM provided a forum for customer support, discussion, digital sample exchange, and more. ECM competitors were CompuServe and The General Electric Network for Information Exchange (GEnie).

Some of my other new media start-ups include Ambient Media Inc., a developer and operator of digital-out-of-home networks; TxtEdge Inc., a mobile marketing venture that uses innovative ‘pull’ technology to put the consumer in charge of the marketing conversation; and Digital Mindshare Inc., a digital marketing think tank that helps individuals and organizations innovate, compete, and succeed in the digital marketing space.

I’ve served as an independent business and IT advisor, CIO, CTO, COO and head of product development and digital technology in public and private companies in a multitude of verticals. I’m working as a digital strategist and advisor to top-tier advertising agencies and brands to help them improve customer engagement and marketing ROI, among other things.

My focus today is on solving complex business and marketing problems using digital strategies, tactics, and technologies. I’m also working hard to develop innovative products, services and training in the areas of strategic networking for new media, technology, digital marketing, and social media.

In 1996, with my good friend @docteled, I co-authored “Strategic Networking”, a comprehensive introduction to the strategic use of computer networks (and this thing called “the Internet”) for communication, commerce and learning. I’ve enjoyed working as an adjunct instructor at New York University for over 10 years teaching courses about Internet technologies, digital strategy, narrowcasting, and digital ad operations in the Certificate in Digital Media Marketing program.

I’m always looking for new opportunities and ways to partner with smart people and progressive companies. You can find information about working with me here. You can also e-mail me for more information or just to say hello.
